Day One

I am wasting time here.  Browsing Pinterest, eating lunch twice (I missed my lunch yesterday, so it's okay, isn't it?), checking FB, organizing files.  arghhhh....

Why am I avoiding starting on the muslin for my Minoru jacket?

fear.

  1. I am a little worried to start my Minoru muslin as well. I plan on starting it this weekend. It's only muslin though, so if something goes wrong it's not that big of a deal! Good luck!

  2. Thanks Lindsay. Weird to want to do a project and then drag one's feet. I'll post on Tasia's blog after the muslin is done. Good luck with yours too!

  3. I clearly understand your fear, which I have experienced over some projects. However, once I have built up the courage and proceed with and completed the project, I am left wondering what was I so afraid of.

    1. Yes, that is always true for me too. And this feeling of not being equal to the task comes much less often.

  4. Muslins sometimes steer me off course too. Not always, but occasionally. That's when I need to make something quick, satisfying. Sometimes needle and thread help.

BTW - very cool pattern tho!

    1. I have taken your advice and while I haven't sewed a quick top etc, I set aside a pattern for an easy dress.

That Minoru pattern is cute, isn't it?

  5. Sometimes
    cutting fabric
    helps.

    ?

    :)

With each new complex project I do, I find I'm less fearful of the next. And I agree with Martha - a quick, satisfying snack can often reinvigorate the confidence and the mojo. If I didn't already have a sporty rain jacket pattern, I would be making the Minoru too - I'll be following your progress with interest :)

  6. I love the stanza you have added to the poem. :-)

Tasia, at Sewaholic, is starting the sewalong on Monday. I will stay with the group for as long as I can to ensure my own success!

  7. Sometimes it is hard to start, but once you do you won't put it down until it is finished - all nighter's included. You will be just fine with the Minoru jacket - and the computer is a real time stealer for most of us....

    1. The computer is a double edged sword, for sure.

  8. I too get the same way, have a project in mind and then just can't get going, but when I do I will just keep going until its finished. Be interested to see you Minoru jacket and how you get on with the sew along - never done one myself, and agree with Doobee the computer is a real time stealer, especially now with laptops and ipads, you can just take it anywhere. Good luck

  9. I started on the muslin yesterday afternoon and have broken that weird mindset.

Sewalongs are interesting in that they slow you way down and force you to think about each step as a part of the whole, if only when interacting with others who are participating. Try one sometime-great fun.

  11. Good luck with your muslin! I just read an interesting post over at http://cleverthinking99.blogspot.com/
which discussed problems with the "high" raglan sleeve of this pattern (not that I would know since I don't have the pattern myself, but thought you might be interested)

    1. Thanks Carolyn. I went over there and looked at that post. I am having some interesting fitting issues. I am going to sleep on it.

  12. I will enjoy seeing your version of this pattern. I like the overall look of the design, and if I needed one, I too would consider sewing this. Hope everything comes together for you.
